Oatway Design Ltd were approached by Plymouth City Council to assist with the design of a new public library within a new mixed use multi storey building.

The existing St Budeaux library was demolished and planning granted for a new mixed use (affordable residential, library etc.) development, where the design of the residential part of the development was completed by the developer, Plymouth City Council was responsible for the library part of the development.

Oatway Design Ltd were proudly appointed to provide the RIBA Stages 2 – 5 (Inclusive) mechanical and electrical design services for the project. We worked with the Client and the design team to ensure the Clients requirements were meet whilst working within their corporate standards and FM requirements.

We worked closely with the Client and the mixed use developer to ensure suitable utility services were available to serve the library, along with sufficient/suitable plant space within the library to serve the library and Cafe area. Our services design consisted of suitable high efficiency low energy LED lighting throughout the area, suitable small power and DATA/WIFI for the public, staff, customers PC zones and smart TV’s along with high efficient ventilation heat recovery systems, underfloor heating throughout the space, CCTV etc.
